DBKA HOST THE FUTURE BEE KEEPERS WITH VISITS FROM LOCAL SCHOOLS & YOUTH GROUPS

One of DBKA aims to to help educate about the importance of pollination and the honey bee. This has been our first year where we have been able to invite local schools and youth groups down to the Denes Apiary and give a close up experience on keeping bees.

After a short talk about  pollination and how the honey bee is key to this our young visitors are kitted out into a bee suit and are given a close up tour around one of our colonies with an experienced beekeeper.

​

Once out of their suits and out of the apiary our young visitors are able to roll a candle form sheets of coloured beeswax, and also have a taste of some of the honey produced by our bees.

​

Both our members and the visiting groups all provided us with great feedback and totally enjoyed the experience. We look forward to inviting more groups to the Denes next spring.
